Confessions of a Befuddled Zen Buddhist

Walnut Tree

Having been foiled from discovering a chestnut tree, this time, Zen Master and Zen Mum are determined to find a walnut tree that they know is somewhere in the neighborhood.

“Now how do you know what a walnut tree looks like?”  I asked, following them aimlessly.

“How many times do I have to tell you?”  Zen Mum responded with exasperation.  “MPT!”

MPT = Maryland Public Television.

I honestly wouldn’t know what that tree looks like if it threw its walnuts at my head.

Then they stopped and stared intently at something.

“That could be it.”  Zen Master said as he pointed up at something.

I happened to look around the ground and found no evidence of walnuts.  “Are you sure that’s a walnut?”  I pointed at the little brown whatchamacallit that was still hanging on the tree.

“I guess not.”  Zen Master said, shrugging his shoulders.

“I think it is.”  Zen Mum was relentless.  “I think all the nuts fell.  Maybe the season is over.”

I guess so.

But in the meanwhile, I’ll just do the normal thing and get my walnuts from the supermarket.
